USCL hosting moon landing party Friday

All ages are invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing at the Upper Sandusky Community Library at 6 p.m. Friday. Special guest speakers K.K. Solacoff M.D. and Wyandot County Museum curator Ronald Marvin Jr. will speak about Neil Armstrong’s connection to the community and Ohio’s contributions to the space program. Artifacts and memorabilia will be on display.

COLUMBUS — Visiting the Ohio State Fair on a budget is possible with the discount days offered July 24 through Aug. 4. Plan ahead and purchase discounted advance gate admission tickets through Aug. 4 for $6 online from Ticketmaster or from retail outlets, including Kroger and participating AAA locations with AAA membership. Save with discounted advance midway ride-all-day wristband vouchers through July 23 for $20 online from Ticketmaster or from Kroger.

Pictoral tribute for Sycamore Legion is Thursday

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Historical Society will present a big screen tribute, at 7 p.m. Thursday in its South Hall, 125 S. Sycamore Ave. An extensive collection of American Legion Post No. 250 photographs will be shown. Lots of individual pictures, some here and many no longer with us will be shown. Also shown will be the “best of” Howard Mick’s 1960s photographic collection featuring hundreds of local residents.

Awareness campaign launched for foster parents

COLUMBUS — People don’t have to be wealthy or have an advanced degree to open a home to children in need. They just need “100 percent heart.” That’s the message of a new foster care and adoption website and public awareness campaign launched recently by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, which oversees the state’s child protective services programs.

Gospel sing at Seneca County Fair on July 28

TIFFIN — The Seneca County Fair will play host to gospel music performers from noon to 5 p.m. July 28 in the new entertainment building at 100 Hopewell Ave., in Tiffin. The event is sponsored by TGMA Gospel Music Promotions and will feature performances from One Voice, Ed Ewing, Leroy Driscoll, Wayne Suter, HeartSong, Cornerstone, The Seekers, Chris Baldwin, 441 Quartet, Bobby Jones Family, New Presence and Gary Herron.

CASA seeking Wyandot County volunteers

Those looking to give back to the community may consider becoming a court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer. Children in foster care who have a CASA volunteer are more likely to succeed in school, adjust better to change and they are half as likely to re-enter the foster care system later.

Balloonfest Gearing up for its 20th year

FINDLAY — The Flag City BalloonFest will host its 20th hot air balloon festival Aug. 9 – 11 at Emory Adams Park, in Findlay. Spectators can look forward to a number of new events and enjoy returning favorites such as the car show, kids’ fair, craft show and fireworks. The Flag City BalloonFest is proud to announce several of its new features.
