Upper Sandusky area residents celebrate the 4th of July by attending the fireworks festival hosted by Upper Sandusky First Baptist Church.

SYCAMORE — About 50 people gathered at Sycamore American Legion Park on Sunday to dedicate the newest ball diamond in memory of the late Joe Weininger, a longtime supporter of Sycamore youth baseball and softball.

Bishop John Stowe (middle) of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky, blessed the new elevator located at the northwest corner of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation following the noon Mass Sunday.

The Sycamore Community Pool passed its final inspection at 11 a.m. Friday, opened at 1 p.m. and had its first handful of customers around 1:30 p.m. under mostly sunny skies.

FINDLAY — The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter was recognized by the Ohio Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, at a luncheon Friday in Findlay for providing outstanding support to local military members and their families.

A former county commissioner and current rural Upper Sandusky farmer recently participated in the Flag City Honor Flight, a free trip for veterans to visit the memorials around Washington, D.C. It wasn’t Jim Leslie’s first time visiting the nation’s capital, but this time felt different.

T — The village of Forest will honor three people who have dedicated endless hours to the community during the Tree Town Festival parade on July 8. David and Lora Ferrand have been named grand marshals of the parade and Lois Thiel is the community spirit award winner for 2016.

Rural Upper Sandusky resident Marie Frey had an extra reason to celebrate on her 86th birthday Sunday — or rather, 86 reasons. As Frey turned 86 years old, she also welcomed her 86th great-grandchild into the world.
