House fire

Multiple local fire departments responded to a house fire in Upper Sandusky on Tuesday morning. The Upper Sandusky, Carey and Pitt Township fire departments, Wyandot County Emergency Medical Services and the American Red Cross responded to the fire at the residence of Rueban and Rosa Rall at 410 Spring St.

Buckeye necklaces

Residents of Westbrook Assisted Living and volunteers work on stringing buckeye necklaces for the upcoming Ohio State-Michigan college football rivalry game. Enough necklaces were made for all 52 residents to wear one during the game.

Season of giving

Sycamore United Church of Christ Food Pantry coordinator Beverly Paolella (right) and volunteer Barb Gobs pack 20 Thanksgiving boxes Tuesday morning at the church in preparation for distributing them today. People of all ages requested boxes, each of which included turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, gravy, cranberry sauce, soup for cooking, rolls, Jiffy bread mix, butter and apples.

Local group gathers to destigmatize issues of mental illness and suicide

As snow blew sideways outside the Wyandot County Courthouse on Saturday, 13 tiny candle flames lit the faces inside during a candlelight vigil to honor 41 people who have died by suicide. Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn said the contrast between Friday’s sunny, warm weather and Saturday’s frigid blowing snowfall was an example of what it may feel like to live with mental illness.

Community mental health

Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services of Wyandot County hosted an open house as the group closes in on its one-year anniversary of moving into its new facility at 97 Houpt Drive.

Wagon rides

Charles Frey, of Upper Sandusky, directs his Belgian horses while giving rides around the downtown area of Upper Sandusky to anyone who desired a ride. The rides were free to the public and sponsored by Fairhaven Community during the window unveiling for those participating in the annual window wonderland night.
