CAREY — A raucous crowd at the Our Lady of Consolation School gymnasium witnessed its eighth graders battle a group of staff All-Stars Thursday afternoon in the inaugural Christmas Benefit Basketball Game. And it was all for a good cause.

Renovations are needed in the maternity department at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, and they are the priority project for the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual campaign.

BUCYRUS — Wynford and Carey traded shots down the stretch Thursday night. Trey Bame and the Blue Devils made the most of having the last chance. Bame’s corner 3-pointer in the closing seconds gave Carey a 60-58 victory in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball game that featured multiple big shots in the final minutes.

The Carey Kiwanis Club serenaded residents of the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at noon Wednesday.

CAREY — The Upper Sandusky wrestling team may have left Carey High School with a 66-9 victory over the Blue Devils, but the Blue Devils saved their best for last. The final match, the 182-pound weight class, paired Carey sophomore Tanner May — a state placer as a freshman who had a 12-0 record this year entering the match — against Upper Sandusky senior Noah Clary, a returning state qualifier who is ranked third in Division II.

Area nursing home residents received an extra dose of Christmas cheer Tuesday thanks to the First National Bank of Sycamore. Bank employees visited the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 9:30 a.m., Fairhaven Community at 1 p.m. and Westbrook Assisted Living at 3 p.m.

Anytime Abigail Fogle hit a big shot for Upper Sandusky, it was either Casey or Cory Santoro that had the answer. Fogle hit six 3-pointers but the Santoro sisters combined for 50 points as Bellevue knocked off the Rams, 61-50, in non-league action.

SYCAMORE — Could it happen again? That’s what the Mohawk girls basketball team’s players, coaches and fans were hoping as the Warriors prepared to inbound the ball trailing by two points with 2.7 seconds remaining in double overtime of Tuesday’s contest against Tiffin Calvert.

The What’s Cookin’ cookbook discussion group held a potluck, a cookie exchange, a secret santa and a Christmas cookie contest Monday evening at the Upper Sandusky Community Library. Judges were (from left) Janice Woods, Ron Boose and Amy Gardner.

Upper Sandusky City Council bid farewell to two members Monday evening. Bob Blocksom is stepping down after 12 years of service to the council, while Roxie Karg’s term ends on Dec. 31.
