Carey locked in on defense and in doing so took control of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference with a 47-29 victory against Upper Sandusky on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils limited the Rams to 26.2 percent shooting and closed the game on a 21-3 run to pull away.

SYCAMORE — All season long, the Mohawk girls basketball team has been searching for the best way to string together four solid quarters. This time, a scoreless third quarter created a deficit the Warriors couldn’t overcome in a 36-28 loss to Colonel Crawford on Tuesday at Mohawk High School.

Taking control

CAREY — Five seconds was all it took for Carey High School sophomore Tanner May to advance to the next round and maintain his perfect record during the Carey Classic on Saturday at Carey High School. In the second round of the four-person round robin in the 182 pound weight class, May pinned Lucas Zamuido of Gibsonburg in five seconds, a time that is tied for the 16th fastest time in state history.

Local couple hopes to help again

Halfway there

A local couple is raising money to go on their second trip to help those in need. Jonathan Distel, co-owner of AJ’s Heavenly Pizza in Upper Sandusky, and his wife, April, helped victims of Hurricane Harvey last September by traveling to Texas with a truckful of supplies to help flood victims.
