A Sycamore couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday. Bill and Carolyn Bogard were married Jan. 16, 1953.

Carey locked in on defense and in doing so took control of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference with a 47-29 victory against Upper Sandusky on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils limited the Rams to 26.2 percent shooting and closed the game on a 21-3 run to pull away.

SYCAMORE — All season long, the Mohawk girls basketball team has been searching for the best way to string together four solid quarters. This time, a scoreless third quarter created a deficit the Warriors couldn’t overcome in a 36-28 loss to Colonel Crawford on Tuesday at Mohawk High School.

Robin Schuster cleared sidewalks and driveways with his snowblower Monday afternoon in Upper Sandusky. Wyandot County received between one and two inches of snow throughout the day.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Upper Sandusky cheerleading team took one of the top overall awards Sunday in the Mindi Justice Cheer Extravaganza at Riverdale. The Rams won the large varsity high school division and won grand champion overall.

COLUMBUS — The Wyandot County Fair queen has a new ribbon to add to her collection. Upper Sandusky High School senior Hannah Ziegler was named runner-up Ohio Fairs Queen for 2018 on Jan. 6 during the Ohio Fair Managers Convention.

CAREY — Five seconds was all it took for Carey High School sophomore Tanner May to advance to the next round and maintain his perfect record during the Carey Classic on Saturday at Carey High School. In the second round of the four-person round robin in the 182 pound weight class, May pinned Lucas Zamuido of Gibsonburg in five seconds, a time that is tied for the 16th fastest time in state history.

LEXINGTON — Few teams have the combination of athleticism and basketball skill to match Upper Sandusky but Lexington did — and it used greater size to its advantage in a 65-52 non-conference victory Saturday night.

A local couple is raising money to go on their second trip to help those in need. Jonathan Distel, co-owner of AJ’s Heavenly Pizza in Upper Sandusky, and his wife, April, helped victims of Hurricane Harvey last September by traveling to Texas with a truckful of supplies to help flood victims.
