COLUMBUS — An Upper Sandusky native earned a prestigious state honor over the weekend. Kaytlyn Graver, a 2016 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, was inducted into the Ohio 4-H Teen Hall of Fame Saturday at the Ohio 4-H Teen Conference in Columbus.

NORWALK — A district championship is something the Carey community has waited for since boys basketball began, and it is something the Blue Devils seniors dreamed of since they were children. It finally happened Saturday afternoon with Carey pulling away in the closing minutes for a 41-31 victory against Margaretta in the Division III district championship game at Norwalk.

COLUMBUS — Upper Sandusky senior Noah Clary’s high school wrestling career won’t soon be forgotten. After losing a match in the Division II 182-pound championship quarterfinals Friday, Clary reeled off four consecutive victories and ended his career with an exclamation point by pinning Hunter Johns of Chaminade Julienne at the 2:25 mark.

CAREY — March is Developmental Disability Awareness month, and that means another community leader was chosen to be placed in the shoes of someone with a disability. This year’s volunteer was Carey Mayor Jennifer Rathburn. Rathburn’s simulated disability experience involved being in a wheelchair all morning while adding a few other disabilities throughout the event.

FOSTORIA — Kaiden Hammer envisioned celebrating victory at the buzzer, but he did not think he would be the hero to make the winning shot. Hammer put back Zach Hayman’s miss with the ball going through the hoop as time expired to give Mohawk its first boys basketball district championship in school history with a 62-60 win against Arlington in Division IV action Friday night at Fostoria.

COLUMBUS — Usually when Upper Sandsuky wrestler Noah Clary wins, it is by a substantial margin. Two matches after a loss to No. 2 ranked St. Vincent-St. Mary’s David Heath in the Division II championship quarterfinals of the 81st annual state wrestling tournament, Clary responded with back-to-back dominant victories Friday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.

Upper Sandusky High School’s acapella choir group “The Upper Class” performed several songs as musical entertainment for Thursday night’s Wyandot County Township Banquet inside the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds.

NORWALK — With absolutely nothing going right for over a quarter, Carey needed someone to step up and change the momentum. Cody Luzader did that and then some.

COLUMBUS — After talking with his father the night of the district wrestling tournament in Norwalk, Upper Sandusky senior Connor Johnston changed his goals heading into his first appearance at the state tournament. He was able to adjust his goal after meeting the first one with a consolation round pin Thursday night.

St. Peter School will present its second annual benefit auction next weekend from 6-10 p.m. March 17 at the school gymnasium. If the second St. Patrick’s Day-themed event is as successful as the first, then a great evening is in store.
