JFS promotes local workforce at career expo

Local job seekers were given a chance to connect with employment, training and education opportunities Thursday at the 19th annual Wyandot County Career Expo in the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds. The event was put on by Wyandot County Job and Family Services in coordination with Ohio Means Jobs with the help of WCJFS’s Diana Jacoby.

South Sandusky Avenue in Upper vandalized with paint

The Upper Sandusky Police Department investigated a criminal mischief complaint Thursday morning on the 400 block of South Sandusky Avenue after vandalism was reported. An Upper Sandusky man reported finding spray paint on his driveway at 7:43 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers discovered that unknown vandal(s) had taken spray paint cans after 2:30 a.m. Thursday from the back yard of a home on the 400 block of South Sandusky Avenue.

The Lions Club of Upper Sandusky volunteered its labor Thursday afternoon to help install a new Formica countertop in the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center basement. Riverdale girls win big at USV

McGUFFEY — Riverdale’s girls placed first in eight events and double-placed in 10 events on the way to the championship in the USV Ram Invitational on Thursday at Upper Scioto Valley. The Falcons scored 186 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up Ada with 106 points. McComb was the boys champion 149.5-118 over Ada, with Riverdale finishing fourth behind Hardin Northern 89-76.5.

Each year, the Carey Area Chamber of Commerce celebrates women on administrative professionals day with its Professional Women’s Luncheon held Wednesday at the Shrine Cafeteria in Carey. The event is in its 19th year and is a way to bring women in the community together according to Cassie Carlson, executive director of the chamber.

Upper Sandusky senior shortstop Alexis Fogle wasn’t nervous. Not when she watched a three-run lead entering the top of the seventh inning turn into a one-run deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh. Not when a pitch she hit down the first base line with two outs and runners on first and second and her team trailing by a run almost stayed fair but rolled foul by approximately 6 inches.

CAREY — After graduating six seniors off of last year’s league championship team, the Carey baseball team struggled the first half of the season. A big victory Tuesday is further proof the Blue Devils have started to figure things out.
