Upper Sandusky fourth grade students helped out at the Upper Sandusky community garden Tuesday afternoon for planting day. Approximately 71 Union Elementary fourth grade students planted vegetables, pulled weeds, watered and also decorated the sides of the planting beds with chalk.

The Upper Sandusky junior high boys track team went 50-4, winning the Northern 10 Championships and Fostoria Relays and taking second in the Wynford and Bucyrus invitationals. LANCASTER — Riverdale and Upper Sandusky both sent qualifiers to compete in the state junior high track and field meet recently held at Lancaster High School. Upper Sandusky Elexys Miller just missed placing in the girls high jump, finishing ninth by clearing 4-11. Two other competitors had the same height but finished higher based on fewer misses.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale seniors celebrated the end of their high school career Sunday at the 2019 commencement ceremony. BUCYRUS — Carey, Mohawk and Wynford all qualified a slew of individuals and relays for regionals in the conclusion of the Division III district track and field meet Saturday at Bucyrus. Athletes who finished in the top four in districts extended their season as qualifiers for this week’s regional meet.

FINDLAY — Riverdale qualified for regionals in four events and just missed with fifth-place finishes nine times in the Division III district meet Saturday at Findlay. The Falcons girls 3200 relay team of Kendra Collier, Makena Barnes, Juleigha Collier and Paige Rothlisberger qualified for regionals with a fourth-place district finish in 10:53.43 on the first day of the meet Thursday, and Tayler Ashburn also qualified that day by taking second in the high jump at 5-0. Ashburn qualified Saturday in the long jump by finishing fourth at 15-1.5, and Eli Weber had a third-place finish in 4:44.23 in the 1600 run.

A Carey man has been sentenced to 17 months in prison for attempted gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony. Randy A. Ward, 65, was designated as a tier-one sex offender before sentencing at the Wyandot County Common Pleas Court Friday. Ward will be credited with 221 days of time already served. He has the option to appeal the sentence.

In celebration of Senior Citizens Appreciation month, so named because the Older American’s Act supporting a range of home and community-based services was passed in May 1965, the Wyandot County Council on Aging hosted its annual senior fair and appreciation luncheon Friday at Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky.
