Representatives from the Wyandot Chamber of Commerce and Steak Fry event sponsor Wyandot Mutual Insurance Agency were on hand to donate a check for $300 to Open Door Resource Center on Monday morning.

CAREY — New Riegel stayed unbeaten by sweeping Carey 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 on Monday night in a nonconference volleyball match at Carey. McKenzie Row led the Blue Devils (1-3) with nine kills and also added seven digs and two blocks. Bailey Tanner had four kills.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale rallied to tie the match in the second half but could not contain Claire Rothert in the final 17 minutes as Woodmore pulled away for a 5-2 victory in a girls soccer match Tuesday night at Riverdale.

The inaugural Battle of the Badges charity softball game was held Saturday afternoon at Harrison Smith Park between police and fire departments of Upper Sandusky and Carey. In an exciting slugfest, team Upper Sandusky, managed by Mayor Scott Washburn, was victorious 19-12.

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk volleyball team picked up its first two wins of the season and won its third straight “Hoover Bowl” by beating Edison 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 29-27 and then topping Old Fort 27-25, 25-17, 25-22 on Saturday at Mohawk.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale boys soccer team opened its season by blowing out Miller City 9-0 on Saturday night at Riverdale. The Falcons (1-0) took a 5-0 lead by halftime and added four more goals in the second half.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Hanna Breidenbach scored with 23:07 remaining to give the Riverdale girls soccer team a 2-1 victory against Continental on Saturday at Riverdale. Her goal, assisted by Callie Sudlow, answered a match-tying goal by the Pirates’ Alex Hoeffel three minutes before. Riverdale (2-1) held a 1-0 lead throughout much of the match after Lexi Miller scored with 21:22 to go in the first half.

ONTARIO — The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. announced Clara “Mickey” Ekleberry has been selected as the 2019 Outstanding Senior Citizen for Wyandot County. She and eight other recipients from neighboring counties were honored Thursday at a ceremony hosted at Hawkins Corner.

In addition to new principal Blake England, St. Peter Catholic School added a new face this year in fourth-grade teacher Brittany Craddolph. In addition to fourth grade, Craddolph also will be teaching fifth and sixth grade math, but she said she is looking forward to the challenge of teaching fourth grade.

Donning blue jean overalls and a polka dot bandana, Charlotte Leeth, of Marseilles, took attendees of Thursday Night at the Museum back in time to World War II and the rise of Rosie the Riveter, Thursday at the Wyandot County Museum.
