Wyandot Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amanda Fleming spoke at the monthly Women Helping Other Women meeting Tuesday at Don Tomasso’s in Upper Sandusky. She informed attendees about the Wyandot Employment Task Force and its mission to help connect talent with employment opportunities.

RAWSON — Having played just five days before, Upper Sandusky and Cory-Rawson were quite familiar with each other going into their Division IV sectional semifinal tournament girls soccer match Tuesday at Cory-Rawson. They played to a stalemate into the second half in the rematch before the Hornets finally broke things open and pulled away for a 3-0 victory.

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Board of Education was introduced to Mohawk’s new therapy dog during its regular meeting Monday evening. Mohawk Elementary guidance counselor Angie McGinnis said the new dog, Jarvis, is a school therapy dog-in-training.

DEFIANCE — Upper Sandusky senior midfielder William Shumaker’s first goal of the season was the most significant goal scored Monday. With the Rams leading Defiance by a goal with less than 15 minutes remaining, Shumaker received the ball, raced down the right side of the field and, despite having a defender nearby, fired a shot into the right side of the net with 14:35 remaining in the contest.

The Daily Chief-Union is pleased to welcome recent Findlay resident and Marion native Hannah Schlichting to its team as its advertising sales representative. Schlichting brings a wealth of customer service experience to the position, working most recently for a financial advising firm in a variety of roles including front reception and on the organizational side of the firm. She also has worked in several customer service jobs, both in food and retail, and served for four years as a substitute teacher, which she said has taught her to work independently and to be self-sufficient.

ATTICA — There was no quit in the Carey football team Friday night in hostile territory against state-ranked Seneca East. Down by two touchdowns with just over one quarter remaining in the game, Carey scored 20 unanswered points to defeat the previously unbeaten Tigers 26-20 in overtime in one of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s biggest upsets of 2019.

VAN BUREN — At the last minute — literally — the ball finally bounced Riverdale’s way. Logan Frey’s shot deflected off the bottom of the crossbar and down into the goal with just 49 seconds remaining to give the Falcons a 1-0 victory and the boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association championship Thursday at Van Buren.
