NORTH ROBINSON — For a little more than one quarter, it looked as if the Carey boys basketball team picked up where it left off from its first matchup with Colonel Crawford. The Blue Devils, who connected on eight 3-pointers in their first matchup with the Eagles, opened Tuesday’s contest with four 3-pointers, three of which were in the first half.

The last time the Mohawk boys basketball team won a league championship, coach Paul Dunn was on that team during the 2006-07 season, when the Warriors shared the Midland Athletic League title with Carey and Seneca East. An Upper Sandusky High School graduate will test his luck on the national stage this weekend. Todd Stansbery, 31, a 2008 graduate of USHS, is taking off from work at 4 p.m. today and driving to Nashville, Tennessee with his mom, grandfather and girlfriend to try out for “The Voice,” a national singing competition that airs on NBC.

Hayman becomes leading scorer in Mohawk history

SYCAMORE — While growing up, Mohawk senior guard Zach Hayman always knew who the leading scorer in Mohawk boys basketball history, George Amlin, was. Amlin, scored 1,097 points from 1960-63. Now, Hayman will be able to look up and see his name on the wall as the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer.

McCUTCHENVILLE — A barn in rural McCutchenville was a total loss due to a fire Tuesday night. The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reported it was dispatched to a barn fire at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio 53 south of McCutchenville.
