ONU Symphony to open new season with concert

ADA — The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents the ONU Symphony’s season-opening concert, “Destiny and Dvorˇák,” in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 5 p.m. Oct. 25. Under the direction of ONU music director Travis Jürgens, the program opens with Verdi’s “Overture to La Forza del Destino (The Force of Destiny),” followed by George Hüe’s “Fantasie for Flute and Orchestra,” which will be performed by Nicole Wells, a senior music performance major from Germantown, who won the department’s concerto competition.

ONU to present ‘Dracula’

ADA — Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” adapted by Charles Morey and performed by the Los Angeles Theatre Works, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17. In Charles Morey’s acclaimed adaptation, Count Dracula slips quietly into Victorian London with a cargo of his native Transylvanian soil, necessary for rest between his victims.

Love and Theft to perform

TIFFIN — Country music duo Love and Theft will perform at the Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St., Tiffin, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. It has been an exciting year for ACM/CMA/CMT-nominated country duo, Love And Theft.

The Star Players’ fall production of “The Music Man” will feature community favorites Ron Boose as fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill and Star veteran Keitha Voorheis as the respectable town librarian, along with ECOT teacher Rick Hudgel as Marcellus Washburn, Professor Hill’s sidekick.

Star hosting black tie fundraiser

The Star Theatre and the Wyandot County Young Professionals are having a black tie fundraiser, An Evening at the Star, on Oct. 10 at the Star Theatre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the feature presentation, “That Touch of Mink,” begins at 7:30 p.m. as the first screening of a film on the theater’s new digital projector.

Gospel concerts scheduled this month

KENTON — TLC Ministries will present the 2015 singing revival series and free dinner Oct. 3 at Oasis of Life Worship Center, 127 N. Market St., Kenton. Dinner will be held from 4:45-5:45 p.m., with singing by Jericho Road, Donna Sue and the Homelighters to follow at 6 p.m.

Willy Tucker and The Free Spirit Gang

Local rocky tonk band Willy Tucker and the Free Spirit Gang recently traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to record at the legendary Sun Studios. Tucker and his son, Jacosa Way, are among the band members.

Two on Tap performing Sunday

MARION — The all-singing, all-dancing duo, Two On Tap, starring Broadway veterans Melissa Giattino and Ron DeStefano, makes its return to the Marion Palace Theatre stage at 3 p.m. Sunday. The pair first appeared at the Palace in 2013.
