Five Wildcats receive league, district honors
Five Kenton baseball players received post-season awards during the Western Buckeye League and district meeting held this past weekend.
Receiving All-WBL honors from the Wildcats were seniors Alan Scharf and Trevor Beazley, who were both named to the second team; sophomore Mark Fackler, who was honorable mention and senior Tyler Slonecker, who was special mention.
Receiving second team Northwest Ohio Division II All-District recognition were Beazley as a pitcher, Scharf as a catcher and Fackler as an outfielder.
Wildcat shortstop Spencer Vermillion was honorable mention All-District.
Beazley was 5-5 with 59 strikeouts and a 1.98 ERA in 67 1/2 innings this spring. Opponents hit just .199 against him.
Fackler led the Wildcats with a .348 average, 24 hits and 19 RBIs in 69 at bats this spring, while Scharf, who led Kenton with 8 doubles, was second on the team with a .328 average, 19 hits and 14 RBIs in 58 at bats.
Slonecker hit .278 with 11 RBIs and 11 stolen bases, while Vermillion hit .232 and had 11 RBIs and tied for the team lead with 13 stolen bases.

Several Bulldogs place at NWC meet
ADA - A number of Ada athletes placed during the Northwest Conference meet on Saturday at Ada's War Memorial Stadium.
The Bulldog girls placed ninth out of 10 teams with 23 points while the boys finished last with seven points. Columbus Grove won the girls meet with 109 and Spencerville earned the top spot on the boys side with 131.
The highest finish of the day came from Ada's Samantha Fell, who placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.61 seconds. Fell also finished eighth in the 300 hurdles (54.14)
Other Bulldogs scoring points for the team included Moriah Rouch in the 100 hurdles (18.71; 8th), Cassandra Grimes in the 400 dash (1:04.56; 6th) and long jump (13-9 1/4; 4th), Colby Dysert in the 400 dash (56.01; 7th), Courtney Smith in the 3200 run (14:12.44; 8th)

Lady Gophers third at NWCC track meet
CRIDERSVILLE - Upper Scioto Valley and Ridgemont competed well during the finals of the North West Central Conference track and field meet on Saturday at Perry High School.
USV's boys placed fourth out of seven teams with 41 points while Ridgemont finished sixth with 27. On the girls side, Ridgemont was third with 101 points while USV finished fifth with 40.
First place finishers for the Gophers included Malana Ledley in the 100m hurdles (17.1 seconds) and 300 hurdles (47.5) and the 4x400 relay team of Taylor Gaukin, Kelsey Seiler, Samantha Smith and Ledley (4:34.0). Ledley's 300 hurdles time set a new NWCC conference and Ridgemont school record. Ledley also placed sixth in the long jump (13-3).
