CRESTLINE —
The Wynford softball team made the most of all of the recent rain.
After spending extra time in the batting cages because it has been too wet to get on the field during the past week, the Royals hammered out 13 hits in a 12-7 victory against Mansfield St. Peter’s in a Division IV sectional semifinal game at Crestline High School on Tuesday.
The Royals (6-16) scored nine runs in the first two innings to take control early. The Spartans (12-10) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and left the bases loaded, making it interesting late, but Wynford advances to today’s 5 p.m. sectional final game against Mansfield Christian.
The game was a total opposite of the regular season matchup between the teams, in which Wynford took a 3-2 victory in early April.

Back in the lineup
Upper Sandusky’s Rebecca Gamby takes a swing at an offering from Fostoria’s Keri Seel in Tuesday’s Division II sectional final game. Seel threw her second no-hitter of the year against the Rams in a 4-0 Redmen victory.

FOSTORIA —
The third time was not the charm for Upper Sandusky, and Fostoria found it to be twice as nice. And even though the Rams had one superstar back in its lineup, it still added up to zero hits and a 4-0 loss to the Redmen on Tuesday in the Division II sectional final at Fostoria High School.
It was not perfect, but it was the second no-hitter for Fostoria’s Keri Seel against the Rams (11-13) this season.
“Keri is Keri,” Fostoria coach Gabe Sierra said. “That’s the best I’ve seen her pitch since the perfect game in Upper Sandusky (on April 8).”
Upper Sandusky coach Keith Diebler said the weakness that has plagued the Rams all season bit them again Tuesday: hitting or lack there of.

ARLINGTON -
Picking up right where she left off from her last start, Riverdale softball pitcher Kaylee Sheets simply was too much for the opposition.
This time, however, she took her command to another level. Her latest victim was Ada.
Wheeling and dealing, Sheets tossed a no-hitter as Riverdale (11-7) cruised to a 10-0 six-inning win over the Bulldogs (5-14) in its Division IV sectional final game Monday evening at Arlington High School. The Falcons advance to face top-seeded Arlington in the district semi-finals next week.
The Falcons grabbed their fifth straight win and ninth in their last 11 games.
"The last six or seven games, the defense has really picked it up and pitching has really picked it up," Riverdale head coach Doug Ebright said. "This is three shutouts in the last four games ... and we hit the ball pretty well tonight."

BASCOM -
First, Fremont St. Joseph put an end to Mohawk's 62-game Midland Athletic League winning streak.
But even after a loss to North Baltimore, the Warriors still were in the mix to win a share of their seventh straight MAL title.
Hopewell-Loudon did not let that happen, though, as Nikki Dull threw a one-hitter, and the Chieftains put an end to the Warriors' league championship streak with a 1-0 victory on Monday.
Mohawk (14-7, 7-3 MAL) will finish one game back of the winner between New Riegel and Fostoria St. Wendelin, both of which hold 7-2 MAL records. Carey (6-2 MAL) or North Baltimore (5-2 MAL), which also play each other, also could share in the title.
While many teams might be glad that Mohawk's run of dominance over the league ended after six seasons, Hopewell-Loudon coach Sarah Haynes said for her team it was nothing more than a quality victory the team has been lacking.
