St. Wendelin, Carey now on top of MAL
SYCAMORE - The North Baltimore softball team stayed in the hunt for a Midland Athletic League title by knocking off Mohawk, 3-2, in eight innings Wednesday.
The result leaves both the Warriors (12-6, 6-2 MAL) and the Tigers (9-5, 4-2 MAL) as two of four teams with two league losses, trailing Carey (13-5, 5-1 MAL) and Fostoria St. Wendelin (14-4, 6-1 MAL), which have lost only once. New Riegel (12-5, 6-2 MAL) and Hopewell-Loudon (13-7, 5-2 MAL) also are in the mix.
Mohawk led 2-0 entering the final inning, with ace Jackie Messersmith having not given up a hit to that point. But Stephanie Miller broke up the no-hitter with a one-out double, and Brittany Trevino made it a one-run game with a single. Freshman Leona Euler then nailed a run-scoring triple to tie the game.

Rain, Galion stop Upper boys tennis
Upper Sandusky and Galion were not able to complete all five matches, but they finished enough for the Tigers to come away with a 3-0 boys tennis victory Tuesday.
Rain stopped two matches, and dark clouds made it unlikely that the teams could have dried off the courts before more rain and darkness set in.
Kyle Mann of Galion (3-7, 1-5 Northern Ohio League) blanked Jason Mewhorter at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 2 singles, Galion's Eric Mann was a 7-5, 6-1 winner against Danny Morales.
The other completed match was at No. 1 doubles where Dustin Gadd and Dorian Kempf took a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Jacob Beach and Alex Parks.
At No. 2 singles, Curtis Thiel of Upper Sandusky (4-6, 1-5 NOL) and Eric Neal of Galion had a 6-3, 2-1 score.
