Columbus man sentenced
Columbus resident Jermaine King (left) talks with attorney Todd Workman before being sentenced in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court on Thursday to 10 months in prison for carrying a concealed weapon. The 26 year old did not have a permit to carry the weapon and had a previous felony record, disqualifying him from getting a permit. People who got licenses when the carrying concealed weapons law first was passed in Ohio four years ago must renew their licenses.

A Columbus man was sentenced Thursday morning in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court to 10 months in prison on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony.
Jermaine C. King, 26, who had a previous felony record including extortion out of Franklin County, said he and his fiancé recently had a baby and he wanted to be there for his family.
"I'm sorry with the safety of the officers, I'm really sorry about this going on," King said. "I understand with the handgun being found in the car, even though it wasn't my right to have it. I have a family and a daughter and I want to be in their life.

Dome restoration project discussed
By BRANDON DRAKE
Staff writer
Funding for the Wyandot County Courthouse dome restoration project was one of many items discussed during the Wyandot County Commissioners meeting Thursday morning.
Commissioner Mike Wheeler said the board will be sending information to the state regarding the project and the commissioners still are hoping to have the project funded mostly through grant money.
"Obviously we'd all like to see that dome repaired as much of it as we can with grant money and this is through Rep. Steve Reinhard," Wheeler said.
Wheeler also said the board will began working on a project for the Ohio State House Museum in the next few days.

Stanford shoots 62 to take Safeway International lead
SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN, Ariz. (AP) - Angela Stanford shot a career-best 10-under 62 on Thursday to break the Prospector Course record and take a three-stroke lead over defending champion Lorena Ochoa in the Safeway International.
Stanford, the 2003 ShopRite LPGA Tour Classic winner, had a bogey-free round at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. She had six birdies in a front-nine 30 and birdied the final two holes for a back-nine 32.
"It all happened so slowly," Stanford said. "I'm still in a fog. It's just one of those days you can't even get in your own way."
The 30-year-old Texan broke the course record of 63 set by Cristie Kerr in 2004, and topped her previous career best of 64 in the first round of the 2006 Canadian Open.
Tennessee to play Ohio State in 2018, 2019
COLUMBUS (AP) - Ohio State and Tennessee have scheduled a two-year series for the 2018 and 2019 football seasons.
The Volunteers will host the Buckeyes in the Sept. 1, 2018, season opener and will travel to Columbus on Sept. 7, 2019.
Tennessee has faced Ohio State only once before, a 20-14 win by the Vols in the 1996 Florida Citrus Bowl. The teams entered that game tied for fourth in The Associated Press poll.
McNamee gives speech to workout buffs
EVERETT, Mass. (AP) - Former New York Yankees trainer Brian McNamee resurfaced to give a brief motivational speech to a small group of workout buffs but refused to comment on the steroid scandal that landed him and his famous former client in front of Congress.
In his first public comments since testifying that he injected seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone, McNamee gave about 25 high school athletes, coaches and parents a warning about mistakes that can tarnish one's reputation.
