
Couple from Harpster named finalists in national Asgrow soybean contest
HARPSTER - James and Julie Herring, Harpster, were finalists in the national "Better Beans Better Business"promotion, sponsored by Asgrow soybeans.
As one of four promotion finalists, the Herrings were flown to Nashville, Tenn., to attend the 2008 Commodity Classic on behalf of Asgrow soybeans. They were awarded an American Express gift card and a Garmin GPS system.
"We congratulate Jim and Julie on being finalists in the Asgrow Better Beans Better Business promotion,"said Jeff Wheeler, of US Asgrow Lead. "This promotion reinforces the Asgrow brand's commitment to the business of farming and to the success of the American farmer."
"I've been growing Asgrow soybeans for 17 years,"Jim Herring said. "It's been a strong performer for my farming operation."
He said it was a great opportunity to have gone to the Commodity Classic as one of the finalists in the promotion.
"This was my first time attending the Commodity Classic,"Jim Herring said. "I had the opportunity to visit with other farmers, and we really got to know the other couples who qualified for the promotion and attended the show."

OFBF hosting youth event
COLUMBUS - Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is hosting a youth fun event at COSI Columbus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5. In addition to the museum, the event includes an IMAX movie and a dance party. The cost to participate is $10 per person.
"This is a fun event for any youth interested in visiting COSI and making new friends," said Darrell Rubel, director of volunteer development for Ohio Farm Bureau. "We hope kids will explore the museum, as well as leadership opportunities available through Farm Bureau."
All children ages 11 and older are invited to attend and must be accompanied by an adult. Membership in the organization is not required to participate.
To register, contact the Wyandot County Farm Bureau by Friday.
"Farm Bureau has a long history in developing our young leaders," Rubel said. "It’s going to be a fun day full of new friends, exploration and discovery."

By word of mouth
St. Peter's School recently finished the Word of Mouth program, sponsored by the American Lung Association. The program was an anti-smoking campaign presented to fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. Theresa Hensley (standing) presented four sessions, covering facts about tobacco and its effect on a person's health. The program was covered by a grant from the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation.
