Kirby native promoted to dispatcher manager at OSP Columbus headquarters
By ALISSA PAOLELLA

Wyandot County native Lydia (Frey) Wagner slipped into a dispatcher position at the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office after layoffs at the clerk of courts office in 1987 and continue moving up in dispatching law enforcement officials until a recent promotion to dispatcher manager with the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the Columbus headquarters.
Wagner, a daughter of Ron and Linda Frey, Kirby, said after being hired at the sheriff’s office, she found she loved the job.
"I just picked right up with it," she said. "I enjoyed it. I love working with people and helping the public. I like working with the units out on the road and helping with what they need when they handle crashes and investigations. It’s probably not something I thought I would ever do, but I had the opportunity when the layoff came about and I really enjoyed it."

Commissioners move forward with courthouse door project
By BRANDON DRAKE
Staff writer
Improvements soon will be coming to the Wyandot County Courthouse as the Wyandot County Commissioners awarded a bid Monday morning to Stanley Security Solutions for the front door project on the west side of the courthouse.
The project, which was bid from Stanley Security Solutions in the amount of $3,755, will install handicap accessible doors on that end of the building. It is funded as part of a block grant in conjunction with constructing a handicap accessible ramp at the Wyandot County Jail.
The board of commissioners also approved a sub-grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The agreement, which is effective from July 1 through June 30, 2009, provides specific services for terms, conditions and requirements for governing the administration and use of financial assistance received by or used by each county family services agency.

Nathan agrees to extension with Minnesota
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Joe Nathan is staying with the Minnesota Twins rather than following Johan Santana, Torii Hunter and Carlos Silva out of town.
Nathan and the Minnesota Twins agreed to terms on a $47 million, four-year contract, a deal that includes a 2012 club option on the 33-year-old closer.
The Twins were not going to get rid of the two-time All-Star, not after deciding to deal Santana and watching Hunter and Silva depart as free agents during the offseason.
Nathan was slated to make $6 million in 2008, far less than several ace relievers around the majors. Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees got a $45 million, three-year contract in November, and Francisco Cordero signed a $46 million, four-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds after becoming a free agent. With Francisco Rodriguez of the Los Angeles Angels eligible for free agency after this season, the price for closers could soar even higher.
