CAREY —
In an attempt to let the public see the conditions of the Carey school building with their own eyes, Superintendent Mark Vehre led a tour for the public Wednesday evening.
The district is gathering community input on whether to put a bond issue on the ballot to fund a possible Ohio School Facilities Commission project involving renovation of the current building or construction of a new one. OSFC would fund 57 percent of a project, and the district would fund 43 percent.
First was a quick stop in the high school cafeteria, where Vehre explained to the group there is not enough cold food storage.

Wyandot County to gain substance abuse prevention group

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties has been awarded a $3,000 grant for the "Parents Who Host Lose the Most: Don't be a party to teenage drinking" campaign.
The campaign is administered across the state by the Drug Free Action Alliance. It educates parents about the legal ramifications and health and safety risks of serving alcohol to teens other than their own children. The campaign runs each year from April through June, during prom and graduation season when underage drinking parties are common.
It is the sixth year the local board has received a grant, but it has been putting the program on for seven years, said Cheryl Huss, director of community support for the board.
This is the first year it has put on a district-wide campaign, which is being done because of state and federal budget cuts, she said.

Dave Ross of Upper Sandusky recently reached the 1,000 milestone for a four-game series. He finished at 1,018, coming up slightly short of the house record.

Upper Sandusky's Dave Ross had reached one milestone, but never quite reached a couple of others he was shooting for.
But he caught fire during his Tuesday night bowling league two weeks ago and eclipsed the 1,000 mark for a four-game series with a 1,018.
Ross had one previous 300 game, but had never set a series milestone while bowling in league play for the past seven years. His three-game high was 792, and his four-game high was 997. Ross said he simply felt good and stayed calm the whole night while approaching the 1,000 mark.
"Me and my brother were both bowling really good," Ross said.
