Citizens for Mental Health and Recovery Services thank voters
The Citizens for Mental Health and Recovery Services thank the citizens who voted on election day. A special thank you goes to the army of volunteers and Mental Health and Recovery Services board members who generously gave their time to promote the levy. It is through people who see a need for change that change will occur.
According to the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, mental illness in America is more common than cancer, diabetes or heart disease. The mental health of friends, neighbors and family members is essential to the vitality of communities. When mental health needs go unmet, people’s homes, workplaces and communities suffer.
One in four people will require mental health treatment at some time in their life. It may be a short-term situation brought on by stress from losing one’s job or the death of a loved one; or it may be long-term from a biological disorder. Just as a person with heart disease has the right to see a physician for treatment so, too, does the person experiencing symptoms of depression or schizophrenia.
The voters have shown their support in offering youth opportunities to be successful in their schools, as well as supporting their community by making it a priority to care for families, returning veterans and the elderly through treatment programs. The Mental Health and Recovery Services board will have more resources to help individuals who have either limited or no insurance to seek the treatment that may improve their lives.
