Mother Natures keeps county, city crews busy cleaning up 13 inches of snowfall

Mother Nature ripped into northwest Ohio over the weekend, dumping 13 inches of snow on Wyandot County while crews scambled to keep up with the blizzard-like conditions.
Wyandot County Sheriff Mike Hetzel said his office saw the local community cooperating with the level 3 snow emergency, which he issued at noon Saturday and lifted at about 7 a.m. Sunday.
The county was on a level 2 snow emergency until 1 p.m. Sunday.
"I think it was excellent this time around. We had a lot more cooperation on the local level," Hetzel said. "The main area is U.S. 23. I understand people are trying to get off the roads and go home. Locally, the cooperation was super, although we had a lot of phone calls checking the levels. But that was even better (than usual), too."
He said the sheriff's office mostly handled traffic accidents.

Juan Saldana
Sycamore man
sentenced to four years in prison for
felonious assault
By ALISSA PAOLELLA

A Sycamore man was sentenced to four years in prison Friday afternoon in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court after he was found guilty of felonious assault.
Juan A. Saldana was sentenced on the second-degree felony after he was found guilty by a 12-person jury in January.
The incident in question took place Oct. 17, 2007 near the Sycamore Tavern.
At sentencing, Judge Kate Aubry found the defendant had a prior criminal record, including burglary, trafficking in marijuana, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, negligent assault and domestic violence. She said the court could not overlook evidence that confirmed a knife was pulled on the victim and physical harm was inflicted on another human being.
