MOUNT BLANCHARD -
When Maryann Holderman came to Riverdale three years ago, she did not come because the Falcons had a strong basketball program.
More than basketball success, Holderman was seeking a community to call home, she said. As the Falcons head to Columbus for Friday's Division III state semifinal basketball game, Holderman has found everything she was looking for.
"The main thing for me is my family," she said. "I wanted my family in a smaller school setting. I wanted my kids to grow up in place where I can see them every day and I can teach. That was my main objective. I'm a teacher first."
Holderman said she feels like a part of the community and enjoys both teaching and coaching at Riverdale.

MOUNT BLANCHARD -
Riverdale students, staff and community members came out to show their support for the girls varsity basketball team Wednesday night, making the stands a sea of blue before the team's Division III state semifinal game against Sugarcreek Garaway on Friday.
Becky Taylor, wife of activities director Craig Taylor, announced that tickets to the game are sold out, and the crowd cheered.
High school principal Terry Huffman spoke to the team, telling them they will remember everything about the experience of playing in the state basketball tournament, and will appreciate it even more later in life.
Huffman called up two members of the 1974 boys basketball team that went to state, Gary Brown and Jack Messmer.
Craig Taylor also spoke.

BOWLING GREEN -
Things looked a little bleak for Archbold's boys basketball team heading into halftime.
But the Blue Streaks stormed out of the locker room after some needed inspiration from coach Doug Krauss and used a 15-4 run in the third quarter to help lead them past Wynford, 47-42, in a Division III regional semifinal game at Bowling Green State University's Anderson Arena on Wednesday night.
"I think at halftime when coach was talking to us about how we were only down by seven, but really, we should have been down by at least twice as much with how badly they outplayed us," said Archbold senior Gene Goering, who found himself in foul trouble in the first half and finished with nine points.

COLUMBUS -
Of the four teams heading to Columbus on Friday for the girls Division III state basketball tournament, Riverdale is the only one without experience playing at the Schottenstein Center for the final four during the past three seasons.
Versailles played in the state semifinal last year, Garaway did the same in 2006 and Regina was the state champion in 2005.
