Lots of concern
Kirby clerk-treasurer and former mayor Darl Snyder was one of a dozen that addressed the 130 people gathered Monday night at St. Mary’s Center. Those gathered hoped to hear some answers from the Ohio Department of Transportation as to why there is not an exit at Ohio 293 on the the new U.S. 30.

Residents get ramped up over ODOT’s answers to Ohio 293 interchange

KIRBY —
Kirk Slusher gave the audience Monday night four million reasons why entrance and exit ramps would not be going in at the Ohio 293 and U.S. 30 intersection.
The Ohio Department of Transportation District One planning and programs administrator was not a popular speaker to the 130 people who gathered at St. Mary’s Center in Kirby to discuss why ODOT did not put in an interchange at Ohio 293.
Slusher said there were two main roadblocks from that happening: $4 million and the department’s guideline of only having exits every eight to 10 miles in rural areas.
“We have no intention of building ramps there,” Slusher said. “The design is what it is. We’re not going to change that.”

Several Upper Sandusky residents approached city council at its regular meeting Monday evening expressing their opposition to the city helping to fund a new county economic development office.
Resident Paula Patrick, who expressed her opposition at the Feb. 28 council meeting, said she searched for more information following the meeting.
“After the meeting, a few of us sitting in the back were talking to (Chris Bruynis of the Wyandot County Business Retention and Expansion task force) about exactly what kind of businesses we are talking about bringing in to Upper Sandusky and Wyandot County since they do not want a large factory,” Patrick said. “They said it wouldn’t mesh with the city. … He said what (the committee) is doing is supporting small business entrepreneurs for Upper Sandusky and the surrounding area. … He said he already had a businessman who wants to bring in a medical billing office and that the money, some of the money (the committee) is getting for this organization would be used to train those people.

Wynford, Archold near mirror images of each other

BUCYRUS —
A glance into the mirror this week might reveal more than a image of themselves. In fact, Wynford players might just catch a glimpse of Archbold players looking right back at them prior to their Division III regional semifinal game Wednesday night.
The teams have many similarities, including have a first team all-district post player, a balanced scoring attack and opportunistic defenses that have caused trouble for their opponents throughout the regular season.
On paper, they also have enjoyed nearly identical results, with the Royals entering with a 21-3 record and a No. 17-ranking in The Associated Press poll compared to the Blue Streaks’ 19-4 mark and No. 15-ranking in the AP.

Aubry named to All-Ohio 3rd team
Upper Sandusky’s girls basketball team has produced many great players in its program and senior Clare Aubry is no exception.
Her performance on the basketball court over the past four seasons has led Aubry to earn many accolades, including finishing up her career by being named to the All-Ohio Division II third team today.
It was the third time Aubry was named as an All-Ohio player, as the University of Toledo-bound senior received the distinction the past two seasons.
She was a third team selection in 2007 and an honorable mention selection in 2006, both honors coming when the team played in Division III.
