A way out of grain
Craig Francis (from left), of the Farmers Commission Company, Lynn Yeater, Wyandot County EMS coordinator, Gary Riedlinger, of Farmers Commission, and Jay Gretzinger, Carey Volunteer Fire Department chief, stand with a grain rescue tube the Farmers Commission recently donated to the Wyandot County special rescue team. The tube can be put around a person who has become engulfed in grain or other substances, and the substance can be vacuumed out so the person can be rescued.

Not even quicksand can stop the Wyandot County special rescue team.
Due to the Farmers Commission Company donating a grain rescue tube to the team, rescuers now have the capability of removing people who have become engulfed in various substances.
The piece of equipment helps emergency responders to remove people who are trapped in grain in bins or trucks. It also can be used to rescue a person who has sunk into something such as dirt or sand, said Lynn Yeater, Wyandot County Emergency Medical Service coordinator, who is a member of the team.
That makes its use "a little bit wider than farm applications," he said.

Wynford school district voters asked to approve levy for Pioneer Joint Vocational School District
By LONNIE McMILLAN
Sports editor
SHELBY - Voters in the Wynford School District and other districts that make up the Pioneer Joint Vocational School District have a chance to accept a proposed tax levy to make improvements to Pioneer Career and Technology Center at almost no cost to them.
If the 1-mill permanent improvement levy is passed Tuesday, superintendent Glenna Cannon has promised the district will cut its 1-mill operating levy a year short and not seek its renewal when it expires at the end of 2009.
In order to secure $19 million in state money, Pioneer must secure funds from voters. The proposed levy would generate $2.3 million per year, and all funds would go toward needed improvements to the building located in Shelby, which is 40 years old.
