State of perpetual cold
Water leaks from many crevices in the water tower on Chief Street in Upper Sandusky, which is causing icicles to form around the aged tower. City officials are meeting with representatives from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday to discuss a plan of action to take down the tower.

City officials from Upper Sandusky will be meeting with representatives from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday afternoon to plead their case with EPA officials in Bowling Green and ask for permission to take the leaky water tower down.
The water tower on Chief Street, built in 1936, holds about 200,000 gallons of water and the city plans to build a new tower on Malabar Drive on a piece of property it recently purchased for $30,000.
Water plant supervisor Dave Westbrook said the multiple leaks in the current water tower are causing an ice build-up.
"We had a leak back in '06," he said.

Mohawk BOE looks into snow days

SYCAMORE -
Students who have celebrated the announcement of school closings and delays because of flooded roadways, ice and snow in the Mohawk Local School District may find themselves stuck inside for a few extra days heading into summer vacation.
As of right now, school will not end until three days after Memorial Day, as the district will be making up four of its snow days on May 23 and May 27-29. But with at least a few more weeks of potentially inclement weather ahead, including today's snowfall, the school board looked at other possible ways of making up days at its regular meeting Monday evening.
"We could be out pretty easily (today), and if the wind kicks up like they're talking about, that could be a problem," Mohawk Superintendent Sam Martin said.

1,000 points
Wynford senior John Shifley scores his 1,000th point with a short jumper early in the second quarter of last week's sectional semifinal victory against Ashland Crestview. Shifley has shined for the Royals since the final game of his freshman season.

GALION -
As a freshman, Wynford's John Shifley was thrown into the fire, making his varsity debut in the district semifinal against Western Reserve.
Even though he was nervous and Wynford fell to the Roughriders, Shifley came through with five points. During the past three years, he has come through for the Royals with 1,000 points.
Shifley, a senior, reached the 1,000-point milestone with a bank shot on a pass from Kyle Shroll early in the second quarter of the Royals' sectional semifinal 78-43 victory Wednesday against Ashland Crestview at Galion High School.

SYCAMORE -
Mohawk's Brock Kirian already senses the bitersweetness of wrestling at state as a senior.
After all, this is the last chance the grappler has at winning a state title, as he has fallen short in his three previous appearances at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III state wrestling tournament.
Kirian is hoping that all changes this weekend, as he is focused on completing unfinished business that he started as a freshman.
"My freshman year, I was pretty much happy to get down there," he said.
