Showing good leadership and even jumping out of airplanes is all part of the program for a Wyandot County resident who is being honored for her service in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
Lisa Acton, a 2004 Mohawk High School graduate, has been named the George C. Marshall Award winner from the University of Dayton. The award is given annually to the most outstanding cadet in each Army ROTC program. The selection is based on professional excellence, leadership, personal integrity and selfless service to the nation, according to a press release from the university.
The award is named after Army Gen. Marshall, who served as chief of staff of the United States Army and secretary of both state and defense. He was the author of the Marshall Plan and the only career soldier to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Village of Forest could be extending into Wyandot County by month's end
By DAN ROBINSON
DC-U news bureau
FOREST - By the end of the month, the village of Forest could increase in size by approximately 50 percent and extend into Wyandot County.
Council scheduled a special meeting Feb. 28 to consider an ordinance that would annex 284 acres of ground into the village for the construction of an industrial park.
The Lincoln Way Industrial Park would be located north of the village and extend into Wyandot County.
Forest village administrator Charles Brunkhart said the village has applied for state funding to develop the site with ditches and streets.
"This might benefit us greatly," Forest Mayor David Hankins said. "With the demographic where this sits, I don't see where it could hurt us."
Hankins noted a railroad distribution center is expected to be built in North Baltimore, about 30 miles from Forest. The Lincoln Way Park would be located about a tenth of a mile from the newly completed U.S. 30, noted Brunkhart.
"This is a prime location," Hankins said. "That is what we have been told by the professionals."
