The Wyandot County Sheriff's Office made 84 less traffic stops in 2007 than the previous year and responded to five more injury crashes, according to a report released by the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office reported it handled 1,743 adult traffic stops in 2007, down from 1,827 the previous year. The sheriff's office handled four fatal crashes in 2007. Seven people died in the four fatal crashes, which was equal to the number of fatal accidents in 2006.
The department handled 60 injury crashes, up from 55 in 2006.
Wyandot County Sheriff Mike Hetzel said the numbers fluctuate from year to year, and the department was cracking down on drug offenders during 2007.

Sycamore FD to consider joining other entities to form new fire district
By ALISSA PAOLELLA
Staff writer
SYCAMORE - The Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department is in the early stages of considering joining with several other entities to form a fire district, similar to the Wyandot East Fire District, based in Nevada.
Sycamore Fire Chief Bryan Clouse will present council with information regarding the possible switch at the department's regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, asking council members to let him know whether or not they would be interested in hearing more information about the switch.
A second meeting will take place March 6 if council is interested in hearing more after the meeting Monday, Clouse said.
He said he is in the process of putting together financial information from the past three years to give council members and fire and EMS personnel the pros and cons of joining a fire district.
