Upper Sandusky Police Chief Robert Hollis entered a written plea of not guilty to a charge of unlawful restraint Friday.
Upper Sandusky Municipal Court Clerk Jane Frey said the plea was received by the court on Friday, in advance of Hollis' scheduled court date Monday.
Hollis, who has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 21, was charged with the third-degree misdemeanor on Jan. 29.
If found guilty, the charge carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail and a fine of $500.
Frey said she is awaiting word from the Ohio Surpreme Court for the appointment of special judge in the case.
Municipal court judge Tom Osborn and prosecutors Richard Grafmiller and Kathryn Collins have removed themselves from the case.

Upper could be up for state facility money
By LONNIE McMILLAN

The Ohio School Facilities Commission is moving quickly through its Classroom Facilities Program list, meaning the Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools will be up for a possible project sooner than first expected.
Superintendent Ken Doseck said at Monday night's meeting the district currently is No. 408 of 612 on the list. But instead of waiting eight or nine years, Upper Sandusky's number will come up in about two and a half years because of an extra $4.1 billion being added to the fund in the next three years from the Tobacco Securitization Funds.
Doseck said the timing is unfortunate because the district will be busy with back-to-back renewal issues on the ballot in 2009 and 2010. Additionally, it will be without $1 million beginning in 2011 when the tangible personal property tax no longer becomes a source of operating revenue.
