Konkle picks up 100th coaching victory

GALION - Four players scored in double digits for Mohawk's boys basketball team and Warriors' coach Brent Konkle earned his 100th career victory as his club pulled away after the first quarter en route to a 76-59 win against Galion Northmor on Tuesday.
The Warriors (9-7) trailed by one after the opening quarter, but the next three went in their favor. Mohawk outscored Northmor in the second frame, 23-15, to take a seven-point advantage into halftime. The Warriors racked up 20 more points in the third quarter to take a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter, where they secured the victory.
David Stine scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Warriors. Connor Jump netted 15 points, Aaron Konkle finished with 11 and Keith Zeigler had 10 points.
The Warriors were 27 of 64 from the floor, including a 7 of 23 performance from the 3-point line. Northmor made 25 of 48 and were 7 of 17 beyond the arc, but were hampered by 28 turnovers.
Mohawk returns to Midland Athletic League action with a game against Carey at 6 p.m. Friday.

Dennis, Tong lead Carey

McCOMB - Carey's Michael Dennis and Brock Tong combined to score 31 points and helped the Blue Devils push past McComb on the road in a non-conference game Tuesday, 43-39.
Dennis keyed the Blue Devils (9-6) with 16 points, while Tong netted 15 points.
The Blue Devils jumped ahead in the first quarter with a 12-7 advantage, but the Panthers were able to battle back in the middle quarters and make it a one-point game. However, Carey did enough in the final quarter to hold off late advances by McComb to preserve the win.
Carey, which only had four players who scored points in the game, outrebounded the Panthers, 30-15.
The Blue Devils also forced 12 McComb turnovers, compared to 11 of their own.
Shane Swisher finished with a game-high 17 points for the Panthers.
Carey next hosts Mohawk in a Midland Athletic League game at 6 p.m. Friday.

Falcons win 4th straight

RAWSON - Riverdale's Taylor Kin scorched the nets for 19 points as he helped the Falcons hold off a late charge by Cory-Rawson for a 55-49 victory Tuesday night.
Kin was the only player to reach double-digits for the Falcons (8-7), who have tallied four straight victories since last their last loss against Crestline on Jan. 11.
The Falcons built a nine-point lead over the first three periods of the game, as the Hornets were held to single digits in the middle two quarters.
In the fourth quarter, though, Cory-Rawson mounted a small comeback but it was not enough to commandeer the lead from the Falcons.
Ryan Frey poured in 11 points for the Falcons, and Derek Draper had seven points and seven rebounds.
Landon Kessler and Ben Wetherill also finished with eight points apiece in the win.
John Erford led Cory-Rawson's offensive efforts with 15 points.
Riverdale next hosts Bucyrus in North Central Conference action at 6 p.m. Thursday.
