Good behavior in fourth and fifth grade students at Union Middle School does not go unrecognized, thanks to an award program that is in its third year.
The Devoted Upper Kids Exceeding Standards award is for fourth and fifth grade students who show excellence and persistence.
The award is given out monthly.
It was created by fourth grade teacher Brad Kinnear.
It goes to children who "go above and beyond to help people out. ... It's more to reward kids who are doing the right thing ... (and are) being good people," Kinnear said.
Students are not chosen based on grades, but by how they behave. Each fourth and fifth grade teacher chooses one student to earn the award per month, for a total of six students.

One final time, Bush seeks to rally support for his agenda in State of the Union address
WASHINGTON (AP) - It is about the economy, and the war in Iraq, and other unresolved matters that have kept the nation on edge. But President Bush's State of the Union address today is something else, too: probably his last chance to seize the public's attention and put it to use.
Bush will pressure Congress - particularly the Senate, where he senses trouble - to finish an economic stimulus package fast. He will announce steps he is taking to reduce and reform the use of earmarks - a common Capitol Hill practice of slipping pet projects into spending bills, saying that if the items are worthy, lawmakers should debate them in the open and hold a public vote.

The result was playing one of their best games of the season, according to long-time coach Andra Bell who is retiring at the end of the season, as the Rams rolled past host Shelby with a 72-53 victory Saturday evening.
