A year and a half of waiting to find out a conclusion came to an end Wednesday afternoon in Wyandot County Common Pleas Court.
Mark Gaietto, of Sycamore, was sentenced to 180 days in the Wyandot County Jail after being found guilty of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Gaietto originally was charged with rape and gross sexual imposition, felonies of the first and fourth degrees, respectively. The charges stemmed from a June 1, 2006 incident in which a now 23-year-old woman accused Gaietto of raping her in his Sycamore residence.

New officers chosen for Wyandot Regional Planning Commission
By LAUREN SCHLOSSER
Staff writer
A new president and vice president were chosen for the Wyandot Regional Planning Commission at its meeting Wednesday.
John Bigler, who has been the vice president, accepted being the president starting at the next meeting.
He will replace Steve Phillips, who has been president for two years.
"I want to thank you for all your hard work. ... Always, always a lot of help and great assistance, great resource, and done a lot of work for the commission. ... (It has been a ) pleasure serving along with you," commission director Nancy Kukay said to Phillips.
Dave Courtad volunteered to be vice president.
Kukay said the board needs to find a replacement for Don Dunlap, a Tymochtee Township Trustee, who resigned.
Members discussed ways of encouraging more people to join the group.
A member asked if it was possible for two people to join from the same township.
Phillips said that had not been ruled out, but it would be better to try to get people to join from townships that are not yet represented.

Taking it to the hole

Falk reaches 1,000-point milestone; more still to accomplish in career
By BRANDON DRAKE

Alex Falk had thousands of reasons to smile on the basketball court last month.
The versatile Upper Sandusky boys' basketball star eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau during his team's 74-67 loss against Shelby on Dec. 28. Falk, a 6-3 junior guard, surpassed the milestone by scoring his team's first shot of the night and finished the game with 25 points.
After making the basket, the game was stopped momentarily as Falk was presented the game ball and congratulated by teammates and the coaching staff. The moment, though, did not come as a complete surprise as coaches alerted Falk he was approaching the milestone.
