Residents encouraged to know the law, surroundings when riding snowmobiles
By ALISSA PAOLELLA

Area law enforcement officials are warning residents to be cautious while riding snowmobiles this winter, as well as to learn the specific laws of cities and municipalities within Wyandot County before taking their vehicles out for a spin.
Upper Sandusky Police Chief Robert Hollis said the easiest way to avoid a possible fine is to learn and obey the laws.
"If everybody would be considerate of their rights and benefits, we wouldn't have the complaints," said Hollis, who added many property owners in Upper Sandusky have been calling the office to report that snowmobiles are being driven through their front lawns or in the streets. "All it takes is consideration, understanding the law and obeying the law.
"The law doesn't say anything about the tree lawn, the law says the street. The city crews are very good at keeping the streets clean. That's a problem. The city has made provisions so (people) can drive the (snowmobile) out of town and run around the country and do everything they want to do, and drive back in. A lot of cities don't do that. ... Because we live in a rural community and are surrounded by farmland and so forth, there are certain things that are more acceptable here than what would be in Cleveland," Hollis added.

BR&E seeking more financial commitments
By BRANDON DRAKE

A big step was taken at the latest Business Retention and Expansion meeting, as task force members approved creating a private-public corporation for the purpose of funding an economic developer position in Wyandot County.
The task force, which met Tuesday morning at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, is asking for public and private entities interested in being involved in the formation of the corporation to make a 10 percent financial commitment by March 1 to Wyandot County Economic Development Office, if the name is available, which will be labeled as a 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation.
Letters will be sent out to a list of businesses and public entities the task force has compiled. The letters will contain more information about how much the corporation is seeking as far as a commitment from both private and public sectors.
"It's the next step in moving down the path to creating an economic development office," said Chris Bruynis, a member of the task force and an Ohio State University Extension educator.

CAREY -
After a difficult first quarter, Carey girls basketball coach coach Tom Lee made a few changes that sparked his team to a 48-43 victory against Wynford on Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils went to a zone defense, started applying more pressure and changed their offensive set to bring Karrah Windau out from the post to the perimeter. Those changes helped bring about an 18-3 run that put Carey in control most of the game.
