Brown's 31 points help Riverdale overcome Buckeye Central
MOUNT BLANCHARD - Riverdale's Kayla Brown scorched the nets for a game-high 31 points as the Falcons defeated Buckeye Central in North Central Conference girls basketball play Saturday night, 67-55.
The win completed the sweep for Riverdale (9-2, 6-0 NCC) against the Bucks, as it topped Buckeye Central on Dec. 1, 55-29. However, it took a little more time the second time around to gain the victory.
The Falcons jumped ahead in the first quarter, 21-14, but the Bucks (5-8, 2-5 NCC) hung around and only trailed by 10 at halftime, 39-29. Buckeye Central pulled within eight at the end of the third quarter, but could not cut into the deficit in the final quarter.
Besides Brown, Kelli Kotterman scored 10 points and Amy Fox had nine points for the Falcons. Kristi Kotterman added seven points, nine assists and six steals, while Allysha Wells had two points and four rebounds.
Jordan Kimmel keyed the Bucks with 16 points, while Kelly Fortney and Melissa Hoffbauer had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Dennis helps Carey put away Arcadia
By BRANDON DRAKE
Staff writer
CAREY - The fourth quarter adjustment was simple for coach C.J. Kin and his Carey boys basketball team - get the ball back into the hands of sophomore forward Michael Dennis in the low-post.
The strategy worked as Dennis scored six of his game-high 22 points in the final frame, allowing the Blue Devils to pull away with a 55-45 victory against visiting Arcadia on Saturday evening.
"The third quarter we went away from (going inside) a little bit," Kin said. "But then the fourth quarter we really stressed forcing the ball back inside, especially with (C.J.) Holman having three (or) four fouls, we wanted to go back right at him. And I thought the kids did a nice job with their high-low looks and their ability to finish inside."
Dennis finished with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his final numbers.
"We couldn't stop him," said Arcadia coach J.T. Bates, whose team got in foul trouble attempting to slow down the sophomore. "Dennis, he's a nice player. He's big, he's strong (and) he's tall. We didn't have anyone that could really match up with him as far as man (coverage)."
