Eagles hand Falcons their 2nd loss of year

FINDLAY - Liberty-Benton's Amanda Hyde and the rest of the Eagles found themselves at the free throw line again and again, as they pulled away from Riverdale in the fourth quarter to earn a 43-32 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.
The Eagles (10-1) made 21 of 26 attempts from the line - including a 12 of 14 performance by Hyde - as they outscored the Falcons in the final quarter of play, 22-15.
Before the final quarter, neither team was able to gain much of an advantage as both teams were held in single digits over the first three quarters of action. The Eagles led by four at halftime, 16-12, and held the Falcons' scoreless for the first half of the third quarter before the Falcons got within four points heading into the final stanza.
Hyde finished with a game-high 20 points for the Eagles.
Kelli Kotterman paced the Falcons (8-2) with 10 points, and Amy Fox chipped in nine. Kristi Kotterman also had six points, eight assists and two steals for Riverdale, which scored its lowest point total of the season by 13 points - a game in which it earned a 45-34 victory against Stow.

Mohawk splits wrestling tri-match in Sandusky

SANDUSKY - A trip to the north yielded mixed results, as Mohawk's wrestling team split a pair of matches against Sandusky St. Mary and Western Reserve on Tuesday.
The Warriors (4-5) edged out a victory against the Riders, 39-36, but fell to the host Panthers, 54-16.
Brock Kirian (189) led the Warriors on the mat as he earned a pinfall victory against a Western Reserve and scored a major decision against Sandusky St. Mary. Shane Hoerig (145) also won both of his matches, pinning a Riders' wrestler in 3:34 and winning his other match by forfeit.
Mohawk returns to the mat next week when it hosts Findlay at 6 p.m. Monday.

Wynford defense shuts down Cardington

BUCYRUS - Wynford's girls basketball team limited Cardington-Lincoln to single digits in the first half and rolled to a 50-27 non-conference victory Tuesday.
The Royals (8-4) held their opponents to just four points in the first quarter and three in the second quarter, as they jumped out to a 25-7 lead at halftime. The Pirates (5-8) outscored Wynford in the third quarter, 14-10, but it was not enough as they could not overcome the early deficit.
Katie Heinlen scored 15 points and Whitney McCombs had 12 to lead the Royals, who were 16 of 40 (40 percent) from the field.
Chelsea Brake keyed the Pirates with 10 points.
