Happier times
Rhonda Minor of Upper Sandusky and her Brutus the Buckeye puppet cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes during the national championship game Monday night. Minor was one of dozens that turned out at the Elks Lodge in Upper to root on the Buckeyes, even bringing along her own Buckeye shrine (right). But after a good start for the Buckeyes, including a 10-0 lead, the enthusiasm and margin waned as LSU beat OSU, 38-24. It was the second straight year the Buckeyes lost in the national championship game.

CAREY -
Carey Council had a new member at Monday's organizational meeting, and may gain another later in the month.
It was newly-elected councilman Michael Blair's first meeting, and former councilman John Rymer's first meeting as mayor.
Several people have expressed interest in filling the empty council seat left by Rymer.
Robert Styer, Nancy Maison and Dan Hyatt were present at Monday's meeting to express their interest.
Council also has received notification of interest from Ben Enders and Lois Kurtz.
A person probably will be chosen at the next meeting.
Councilman Dave Pergram was approved as president of council for 2008 and Tony Wenzinger was approved as president pro-tem.

New Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn appointed three people to various committees after Upper Sandusky City Council's approval at its regular meeting Monday evening.
Washburn appointed Brenda Freehling to a five-year term on the park board; Nancy Johnson to a four-year term on the planning commission; and Denise Clark to a three-year term on the tree commission.
Also approved by council was council president Gary Veith's appointment of Becky Passet to a two-year term on the income tax board of review.
"It's my understanding that ... everyone who wants to return is returning,” Veith said, referring to Washburn's appointments.

Sacked again
Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman has the ball knocked away by LSU's Ali Highsmith before he can get a pass away on a fourth-down play late in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night. The Buckeyes lost in the title game for the second straight year to a Southeastern Conference team, falling to the Tigers 38-24.

Flynn, LSU dominate Buckeyes in title game
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Well past midnight, Les Miles wanted to make one more stop.
So when the LSU coach left the Superdome, he made a beeline for Bourbon Street. With his wife, he climbed onto a crowded hotel balcony, hoisted a glittering trophy and gave it a kiss.
Let others claim they could have won the crystal football that goes to the BCS national champion. No matter, it belongs to his Tigers.
Matt Flynn threw four touchdown passes and LSU made it look easy Monday night with a 38-24 win against No. 1 Ohio State, turning the title game into a horrible replay for the Buckeyes.
