Wellness Center holding first Fitness Challenge of 2008
The Wellness Center at Wyandot Memorial Hospital is holding its first Fitness Challenge of 2008 from Jan. 21 through April 12.
The challenge is open to area individuals who form teams of three people. The goal of the motivational program is to increase overall health.
Participants must have a body mass index of 25 or more to join a team to ensure weight loss is appropriate. BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women and can be calculated on a chart available from the Wellness Center or by logging onto the Web site for the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
For the Fitness Challenge, each team member pays $15, weighs in weekly and has measurements taken at the beginning and end of the program.
The Wellness Center staff will calculate the percentage of weight lost on each individual and the number of points earned for exercise and other achievements. Those figures then will be totaled for the team. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams at the end of the Fitness Challenge.
