Riverdale unable to overcome early deficit

ONTARIO - Riverdale fell behind big in the first quarter and Ontario rolled to a 78-53 victory against the Falcons in boys basketball action Thursday night.
Ontario (9-2, 6-1 North Central Conference) took a 27-11 lead after one quarter and led 45-29 after an even second quarter. The Warriors expanded their lead to 59-37 at the end of three quarters and held a 19-16 advantage in the final quarter.
Sam Barnhill connected on five 3-pointers for Ontario on his way to 19 points. Jake Mochoskay and Alex Richardson scored 14 points each for the Warriors, and Caleb Stewart also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Derek Draper had a team-best 17 points for the Falcons (4-5, 3-4 NCC), and Taylor Kin posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Riverdale held a 39-38 rebounding advantage, but turned over the ball more, 21-15. The Falcons made only 22 of 54 shots, while Ontario connected on 32 of 69.
The Falcons travel to Vanlue for a 6 p.m. game Saturday. Ontario hosts Clear Fork at the same time.(Refer to (Refer to page 6 of today's Daily Chief-Union)


Diebler scores 3

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Jon Diebler connected on a 3-pointer for his only points Thursday night against Illinois.
He was 1 for 4, including 1 for 3 from 3-point range.
In 21 minutes off the bench, he also added one defensive rebound and one steal. He committed two fouls.
