Wyandot County Health Department offering flu vaccines

The Wyandot County Health Department will be administering flu vaccines throughout the influenza season or while supplies last.
According to the health department, the best way a person can protect him or herself against influenza is to get a flu shot. The flu season peaks in mid-February and can last through May.
People at highest risk for complications from the flu include children ages six months to 5 years; women who are pregnant; anyone ages 50 or older; and people more than six months old who have chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, immunodeficiency, cancer, or neurological or other types of disorders.
Flu shots also are recommended for people who live with or care for individuals who are high risk; and health care workers or those with household contact or who are caregivers of children younger than six months old, because those children are too young to receive a flu vaccine.
The Wyandot County Health Department will be offering flu vaccines for $10 per dose during routine immunization clinics from 4:30-6 p.m. each Tuesday and from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. each Friday at the health department; from 2-6 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the Carey Senior Depot; and from 2-6 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at the Sycamore Senior Center. Vaccines also will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 12 at Wal-Mart, Upper Sandusky.
