Keeping it in the family

Upper Sandusky’s East of Chicago Pizza Company will have a new owner to start the new year, as newly elected mayor Scott Washburn will be turning over the business to his cousin, Rick Washburn.
The move will allow Scott Washburn to devote his time to his newly elected position, while preserving the family atmosphere East of Chicago has developed locally since the store first opened nearly 15 years ago, Scott said.
“When you own a business, and running the city is just going to be like running a business also, you have to be totally committed to that,” said Scott Washburn, who had taken over the Upper Sandusky location in the spring of 1997. “When I ran for that, that’s what I wanted to do. That’s what my family wanted to do and that’s what I was committed to. (East of Chicago) would suffer.
