Mount Gilead pilot unhurt in Kentucky emergency landing

HAZARD, Ky. (AP) — The pilot of a private plane says he ran out of fuel as he approached Middlesboro.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Nick Metcalf said the pilot told investigators he was trying to land on Highway 66 near the Big Creek area of Clay County late Monday afternoon when he saw people walking on the road. He veered to the right and clipped a guy wire, damaging a wing of the plane.
WYMT-TV in Hazard reported the pilot was 65-year-old David Styer of Mount Gilead, Ohio. Rescuers said Styer was unhurt — walking around and talking on his cell phone when they arrived. Styer declined an interview with the TV station.
