Wynford’s Colleen Hord slides in safe to second base on a steal attempt Saturday against Buckeye Central. Hord also contributed two runs scored in a 9-5 win.
BUCYRUS — The Wynford softball team scored five runs in the first two innings and four times in the fifth inning to take a 9-5 season-finale victory against Buckeye Central on Saturday.
The Royals (10-12, 7-6 North Central Conference) scored twice in the first inning to match the Bucks’ early tally, and after Buckeye Central got one in the second inning, Wynford took the lead with three runs. With the Bucks (17-10, 5-8 NCC) within one, the Royals used a four-run fifth as a cushion.
Shannon Miller was the winning pitcher and was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with three runs scored. KarLee Schiefer had two hits in two at-bats, scored twice and drove in two runs and Reegan Scott had a pair of hits, scored once and had an RBI. Colleen Hord also scored two runs.
Taylor Hanes, Sarah Alt, Brooke Meyers, Morgan Wurm and Kelly Redmon all had two hits each for the Bucks.
Christine Bibb (1-1) was the losing pitcher.
Buckeye Central followed its loss to Wynford with a 6-5 loss at Bucyrus that gave the clinched sole possession of the NCC Black Division title for the Redmen.
Wynford finished in third place in the NCC Black Division behind Bucyrus (17-7, 11-1 NCC) and Upper Sandusky (14-8, 10-3 NCC).
