Wenger named top swimmer at meet

MANSFIELD — Upper Sandusky’s Jenna Wenger was named the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association swimmer of the meet Saturday in the Friendly House Invitational on Saturday at the Friendly House.

Wenger was the champion in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:10.75, and came in second in the 50 free in 25.93. She also helped the Rams to a third-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:54.04 and a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.40.

The Rams girls came in fifth with 189.5 points. Ashland was the champion 339-322 over Colonel Crawford.

Wenger was joined by Ellie Zeller, Emily Ruhlen and Kyla Conley in the 200 free relay. Zeller, Hannah Plymale and Conley teamed with her in the 200 medley relay.

Zeller had the next-best individual finish for the Rams girls, tying for sixth in the 100 back in 1:13.56. Emily Ruhlen was 10th in both the 500 free (6:34.57) and the 200 free (2:26.41).

Upper Sandusky was eighth in the 400 free relay in 4:45.14.

The Rams boys finished tied for fifth with 179 points. Lexington topped Colonel Crawford 345-336 for first place.

Brady Hart led the Rams boys by taking sixth in the 500 free in 6:04.17 and ninth in the 200 free in 2:14.86.

Aidan Bacon was one spot behind Hart in the 500 free, finishing seventh in 6:22.26, and he added a ninth-place finish in the 100 breast in 1:21.12. Aden Davis came in seventh in the 200 IM in 2:28.84. Braxton Cundiff finished ninth in the 100 back in 1:10.44.

Hart, Aiden Frey, Cundiff and Elijah Robinson had the Rams’ top relay finish, teaming up for sixth place in the 400 free relay in 4:24.00. The 200 free (1:51.56) and the 200 medley (2:05.31) relays both finished seventh.

The Rams swim against Galion at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Galion YMCA.
