Tree fest has sports activities

FOREST — The 2014 Tree Town Festival to be held July 11-13 in Gormley Park, Forest, will hold various athletic events again this year.

Events include the Tree Town Trot 5K, Family and Friends kickball tournament, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 4-on-4 volleyball tournament, a fishing derby and a cornhole tournament.

Registration for the YMCA Tree Town Trot 5K will begin at 7 p.m. July 12 at the corner of Mary and Julia streets near Gormley Park and the run will begin at 8:15 p.m.

The event is held in conjunction with the Hardin County YMCA. Contact Beth Hall at the YMCA for more information at 419-673-6131.

A new event, the Friends and Family kickball tournament, is being added to the lineup of sports activities this year.

The cost is $25 per team and the registration deadline is Wednesday.

Teams must be co-ed consisting of at least one person of each sex, with eight minimum and 11 maximum players per team.

All players must complete a waiver.

Checks are payable to the Tree Town Festival.

The Hempy Water Conditioning 3-on-3 basketball tournament will have registration at 8 a.m. July 13 with no entries accepted after the 9 a.m. start time.

Divisions will include ages 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, 6 feet and shorter and open class. T

he cost is $10 per person with a maximum of four players per team.

There will be a coed 4-on-4 volleyball tournament with registration at 8 a.m. and play beginning at 9 a.m. July 13.

At least one member of each sex must be on the team with a maximum of five players and the fee is $40 per team.

Registration for cornhole tournament will be at 8 a.m. July 13 and the event begins at 9 a.m. Contact Jerry Moore at 419-273-2678 for information.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1182 will hold a fishing derby for children ages 3-16 at the Gormley Park pond from 9-10:30 a.m. July 13.
