Shock, Sammons earn spots on All-MAL baseball 1st team

Seniors Aric Shock of Mohawk and Dillon Sammons of Carey were among the players named to the All-Midland Athletic League baseball first team.
Mohawk senior Jonathan Morter and junior Andrew Loose, as well as Carey freshman Satchel Strahm, were named to the second team, while Mohawk senior Nathan Weinandy and Carey junior Corbin Blair were honorable mention picks.
Hopewell-Loudon took both of the top honors with Brian Rothrock earning Coach of the Year honors and senior Tyler Tyree named as the Player of the Year.
Shock, a senior center fielder, hit .431 with 18 runs scored and 15 RBIs.
Sammons, Carey’s only senior, batted .400 with one home run, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He held a 6.76 ERA with a 2-8 record and three saves on the mound.
Strahm, the only freshman named on the team, posted a .366 average with 17 runs scored and 12 RBIs. He went 4-1 on the mound with one save and a 4.20 ERA.
Morter, a senior catcher, hit .366 with 12 runs scored and 12 RBIs, while Loose, a junior pitcher and shortstop, was a .304 hitter with 21 runs scored and 11 RBIs. He also went 4-6 with a 3.27 ERA.
Weinandy, a senior, was a clutch power hitter with three home runs and a team-best 32 RBIs and .315 average. He went 5-1 with one save and a 2.63 ERA as the team’s No. 2 starter.
Blair, a junior third baseman, posted a .377 average with 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
The league’s top player Tyree was a .511 hitter with six home runs, 43 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He also went 8-1 with one save and a 1.19 ERA on the mound.
Rothrock led the Chieftains to a 25-2 overall record and the MAL championship with an 11-0 mark in league play. Hopewell-Loudon was downed in the district finals.
