CALEDONIA — Kilee Saylor pulled out a three-set victory, but it was the only win the Rams mustered in a 4-1 girls tennis loss at River Valley on Friday.
Saylor rallied to her third win of the season after losing the first set to defeat Katie Culfar, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
The Vikings got close two-set victories at the other two singles positions. Taylor Kitchen topped Taylor Clark, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, and at No. 3 singles, Katie Longacre was a 6-3, 7-6 winner against Jenny Ohler.
River Valley rolled in the doubles matches. Abbey Caskey and Emma Christman topped Logan Pierson and Taylor Dilley, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles, while Sierra Green and Caitlyn Emptage defeated Alesha Franz and Megan Pasco by the same score at No. 2 doubles.
“The girls need more work on technique,” coach Angela Miller said. “They simply won’t get to the next level without proper technique. It is my responsibility as a coach to ingrain technique and take them to the next level. I’ve got some work to do.”
The Vikings also won four of five junior varsity matches. Kayla Gault picked up her first win for the Rams.
