One day after Wynford beat Upper Sandusky in walkoff fashion in a sectional final game, Upper Sandusky returned the favor in a North Central Conference game as Tristen Reichelderfer drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 5-4 Upper Sandusky victory on Thursday.
Justin Mattix singled and Alec Oney doubled to put two runners in scoring position for the Rams (10-12, 7-5 NCC). With no one out, Reichelderfer stepped to the plate and singled them both home against Wynford’s Adam Hartz (2-2), who was a winner just a day earlier.
Wynford (13-11, 6-5 NCC) went on top in the top of the sixth inning when Dustin Pfeiffer singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a Mason Davis single.
Upper Sandusky took a 2-0 lead against Wynford starter Alec Miller in the first inning. Consecutive singles by Daniel Newell, Justin Mattix, Alec Oney and Alex Kenner put the Rams in control.
Three straight two-out singles in the third inning by Chase Lantz, Davis and Hartz made it a 2-1 game, but Upper Sandusky answered in the bottom of the inning when Mattix drew a leadoff walk and came around to score.
The Royals tied the game at 3 when Lantz singled and Davis walked to leadoff the fifth inning and eventually came around to score.
Garrett Huston (1-0) earned the win in relief of starter Daniel Newell, who pitched the first four innings.
Mattix and Oney finished with two hits each to lead the Rams, while Lantz, Davis, Hartz and Jerad Butler each recorded a pair of knocks for the Royals.
Upper Sandusky held on for a 9-8 victory in the junior varsity game. Sam Plott had two hits and four RBIs to lead the Rams.
The teams complete a game postponed by rain Monday at 4:30 p.m. today at Wynford. It is Upper Sandusky’s final game of the year.
