Upper Sandusky’s Jaime Calvin gets position next to a Clyde player and heads the ball during Saturday’s season-opening match. Calvin scored a goal in the Rams’ 5-2 victory.
Sarah Rall scored three times and assisted on another goal to lead the Upper Sandusky girls soccer team to a season-opening 5-2 victory against Clyde on Saturday evening.
Rall scored the Rams’ first two goals in the first nine minutes, scoring in the second and ninth minutes, with the second goal on an assist from Mallory Weininger. Jaime Calvin scored unassisted to give the Rams a 3-0 halftime lead.
Brigitte Snow made it 4-0 about midway through the second half on an assist from Rall, but the Flyers came back with two straight goals. Haley Foos assisted on a goal by Kelli Wollensleqal and then scored one of her own to cut her team’s deficit to 4-2.
Rall locked up the victory, though, with an unassisted goal with less than nine minutes remaining.
Keely Stover made seven saves for the Rams (1-0). Clyde’s Anna Leck also had seven saves.
Upper Sandusky outshot Clyde, 16-9, but the Flyers had a 4-1 corner kicks advantage.
The Rams play at 5 p.m. Thursday at Margaretta.
