Parsell’s goal with 9:09 left nets win

VAN BUREN — Nick Parsell scored with 9:09 remaining to give the Riverdale boys soccer team its first win of the season, 1-0, on Thursday at Van Buren.
Marco Kruiter played a ball through the left side of the penalty area to set up a one-on-one for Parsell against goalkeeper Nathan Maynard. Parsell slotted the ball underneath a diving Maynard into the net for the match’s only goal.
It was one of only two shots on goal for the Falcons (1-5-1, 1-2 North Central Ohio Soccer Association).
Van Buren (2-4, 1-1 NCOSA) had six shots on goal, but all of them were turned away by Austin Clark. The Black Knights also had a 4-0 corner kick advantage.
Chad Pever led Riverdale defensively with four steals and four intercepts. Kip Elwood had three steals and three intercepts.
The Falcons host New Knoxville at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
