Oney leads Rams to win

Upper Sandusky’s Stuart Young chips on to the green of No. 18 at The Golf Club of Bucyrus on Tuesday. Young shot a 43 and Upper Sandusky remained undefeated by topping Wynford, 166-185.

BUCYRUS — Alec Oney earned medalist honors by shooting a 37 to lead the Upper Sandusky golf team to a 166-185 victory against Wynford at The Golf Club of Bucyrus on Tuesday.
Trent Howard carded a 41, Stuart Young shot a 43 and Daniel Newell finished with a 45.
“We had a nice win against a solid Wynford team,” Upper Sandusky coach Graham Treadway said. “We were able to take advantage of Wynford’s off night and came away with a great road win on a challenging course. Alec played with great confidence and poise and led the way.”
Joe Reile (47) and Cody Clifford (51) also competed in the varsity lineup for the Rams (5-0, 4-0 North Central Conference).
Michael Powers led Wynford (6-2, 3-2 NCC) with a 40. Nate Smith shot a 46, Logan Leitzy finished with a 47 and Alec Thomas carded a 52.

Long putt

Wynford’s Blaine Dunlap attempts a long putt on No. 18 at The Golf Club of Bucyrus on Tuesday. Dunlap shot a 57 and the Royals were given their second North Central Conference loss by Upper Sandusky.

Quenten Stuckey (54) and Blaine Dunlap (57) rounded out the lineup.
Upper Sandusky won the junior varsity match, 211-231. Zane Kitzler had a 48 for the Rams, while Brayden Pollock had a 54 for the Royals.
Wynford hosts Crestline at 4 p.m. Thursday at The Golf Club at Bucyrus. Upper Sandusky competes in the Bellevue Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.
