Mohawk 6-3, Carey 4-5 in duals

SANDUSKY — Mohawk went 6-3 and Carey 4-5 in action this weekend in the Division III Duals at Sandusky St. Mary.

After going 3-2 the first day, the Warriors won three straight Saturday. They beat Tuscarawas Valley 42-24, Norwayne/Calvert 54-24 and Northwestern 48-32. That gave them a tough final matchup that they lost to Genoa 48-33.

Kael Margraf paced the Warriors with a perfect 9-0 record at 165 pounds, finishing with six pins, a technical fall victory and two wins by decision. Evan England also was undefeated at 8-0 while wrestling at 150 and 157, picking up four pins, three forfeit victories and one win by decision.

Jace Margraf was 8-1 at 150 and 157, getting three pins, two forfeits, two major decision victories and one win by decision. His only loss was a 6-3 setback. Trevor Johnson also was 8-1 with all of his matches at 175. He had four pins, two forfeit victories, a technical fall win and one win by decision. His only loss was a 7-4 decision.

Braylan Mullholand was nearly as good, going 7-1 at 190 and 215. He pinned six of his opponents and won once by forfeit.

Jacob Myers posted a winning record of 5-4 at 285 with three pins. Liam Pursell was 5-4 at 126 with three pins. Lane Kraft finished 4-2 at 215, pinning three opponents. Kyle Stillberger was 3-1 with one pin at 190.

Carey was 2-3 the first day of the tournament and opened Saturday with a 54-18 loss to Monroeville. The Blue Devils came back to beat a combined Norwalk St. Paul/St. Mary team 57-18 and then defeated Ayersville 27-19. They finished with a 45-36 loss to Edison.

Lance Rickle led Carey with an 8-1 record that included him getting his 100th career victory. He opened the tournament with his only loss, a 5-2 decision, and went on to get three pins, two forfeits, one major decision victory and two wins by decision.

Brock Bushong was 6-2 at 285 pounds, finishing with five pins and a forfeit victory.

Kayden Burgei was 5-4 at 138 with one pin, and Lane Montgomery went 5-4 at 157. Reid Blankenmeyer was an even 4-4 at 165. Gage Summit won all four of his matches at 190, three of them by pin.

Kaiden Bays was 3-3 at 150, and Mason Rickle just missed the .500 mark at 144 with a 4-5 record that included one pin. Maddox Perry was 2-0 with a pin at 190, and Jacob Wentz finished 2-1 with a pin at the same weight class. Garrett Boes won his only match by pin at 285.

Carey faces Liberty-Benton and Allen East in a tri-match at 5:30 p.m. Thursday hosted by the Eagles. Mohawk competes in a tri-match against Upper Sandusky and Bluffton at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bluffton.
